I found this Alf a at the beach, it’s a driver, they seem to just drive the hell out of it. The Hyundai is one of a few federal plate Hyundai SUVs I’ve seen here. Even if they are made in the USA I find it odd. The Mazda belonged to an old lady who has had it since 1988! She said she has a local mechanic that takes care of it. My local surf spot coyote was saying hi again, he/she is always around and very chill.
Ok papa, I’m ready!

I’ve wanted to do that pic for a while, I finally got my wife to help me. It’s one of the naval guns they hauled up there as a coastal gun placement.

Is the yellow building thunderbird picture vintage or a modern recreation? Also, who knows, the alfa could be the car from the graduate. Of course the plate should have said Plastic....

Oh I see, the building is white but the setting sun makes it yellow. I don’t think that is a Thunderbird, if I had to guess it is a 1955 Ford. Everything around here is real except for some Cobras I guess. Do they make fake Thunderbirds, they aren’t that out of reach. Or you mean the picture is recreation? I took the picture at the beach, I wish I had my good camera and the bike was out of frame, could have been a good pic.

This picture is one of those that if you told me it was 1956 I would have believed it. There is nothing about the car or people or building to suggest otherwise. There is something about the lense that suggest 300mm to me which would have been very rare to nonexistent in ‘56 which makes me thing otherwise. So if you took it what is the story?

The beach I surf at is an old military area for coastal defense. Those are original Fort Cronkhite buildings the park service uses now. The car drove by and I used my phone, that’s it. There are tons of nice classics in Marin.

Sadly to say the last time I was at Marin was in ‘89 October just in time for a big time earthquake. on my honeymoon. We stayed at the Pelican in in Marin county on the beach to be awakened by a hell of a big shake. Needless to say we did not make our dinner reservation.

Oh that’s at Muir beach, not far from here. Yeah I bet that was quite a shock.

Amazing picture. If it was 1956, I would have agreed.
Yep, we had walked Muir woods earlier and came back to take a nap before dinner. We were sleeping and all the sudden it was like I was kicked out of the bed, I landed on my feet and realized we were having an earthquake.
No power I went out to the car and turned on the radio. No radio except for a couple of stations which were reporting the Bay bridge had collapsed and the Marina district was on fire. The other people at the Pe lican were locals and were freaking. We though being at an English B&B were cool as they had candles, and warm beer.

Yeah I have some family here and they said the Safeway parking lot they were in was making waves.

My favorite realization was “we are having an earthquake. It is here, it is on that big hill, it is everywhere”, then listening for whether the building is coming apart and deciding if we had to jump from the 2nd floor porch. (we didn’t). As I recall we rented some sort of K car derivative which is was OK as I had an Omni GLH back at home.
